  Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette conferred on Dr. M.M. Singh

It is our proud privilege to inform JAAI alumnae that Dr. M.M. Singh, the founder member and ex-President of JAAI, has been awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette by the Government of Japan. The award has been given to him for his distinguished contribution towards furthering Indo-Japan Relations.

The Order of the Rising Sun (Kyokujitsu shō) was established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji of Japan. It is the second most prestigious Japanese decoration after the Order of the Chrysanthemum. The award of the Order is administered by the Decoration Bureau of Office of the Prime Minister in the name of the Emperor.

Dr. M.M. Singh is one of the founder members of JICA Alumni Association of India (JAAI). Dr. Singh was instrumental in expanding the sphere of activities of JICA alumni. International technical seminars in the areas of water pollution, environment, power, disaster management etc were organized during his tenure. During his tenure a program with the disabled children of Amar Jyoti Trust was also organized. We have the privilege to have him onboard as a ‘Distinguished Member’ in the present Executive Body of JAAI.

The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette was presented to Dr. Singh by H.E. Mr. Yasukuni Enoki, the Ambassador of Japan to India, on behalf of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on May 11, 2007 in a special ceremony held at Embassy of Japan, New Delhi. More than 300 invitees including JAAI Members, Japanese Community in India and other Indian and Japanese guests were present on the occasion. JAAI congratulates Dr. M.M. Singh on conferment of this great honour.
